The following payment methods can be added to your account:
- Debit and credit cards
- Bank accounts
- Giropay (Germany only)
- Prepaid/benefit cards
- These can only be used to pay off instalments and not for placing orders or scheduling payments in advance
In all instances, adding a payment method does not automatically update outstanding instalments. If you wish to update all unpaid instalments to be charged to the new payment method, you will need to set it as your default after you add it to your account. To update your default payment method, simply go to the "Payment Methods" page within your Sezzle dashboard, select the payment method, and choose "Set as default."
Note: Please make all changes to the default payment method at least 2 days before the payment is scheduled. Changes made within 2 days of the payment due date may not take effect.
If you're looking to add a new payment method because your previous one was stolen or closed, you may also want to reschedule your payments while you wait for your new payment information to arrive.
Adding a debit or credit card
To add a debit or credit card, start by navigating to the "Payment Methods" page within your Sezzle dashboard. You will then select "Add a new debit/credit card" to be walked through the process. Once added, if you want all future instalments to be charged to this new payment method, simply select it and choose "Set as default."
Please note, if you add a debit or credit card to your account and it appears in the "Prepaid card" section, that means the card has been designated as a prepaid card by your financial institution. If you have questions about why a card is labeled as a prepaid card, please reach out to your card issuer directly (typically by calling the phone number on the back of the card) to understand more about the card. We do not have the ability to override a card's prepaid label.
Adding a bank account*
To add a bank account, start by going to the "Payment Methods" page within your Sezzle dashboard, then select "Connect your bank account."
Choosing "Instantly linking your bank account" allows you to log into your bank account, using the same information you'd use on your bank's website to link the account. This method allows your bank account to be instantly enabled and used for purchases or paying off existing instalments. However, depending on your bank, this method might not be available.
If your bank isn't on the list of options to instantly link, or if you run into issues logging into your bank account, you can also add your bank account directly. You will then select "Connect your bank account" and be asked for your account and routing information. We'll send and withdraw two micro-deposits (typically less than 1 € each). These micro-deposits can take around 3 business days to appear in your account. Once you've seen them, you'll need to go back to the "Payment Methods" page and verify the amounts. Once the account is verified, it can be used for new orders or to pay off existing instalments.
Once added (and verified, if you used the micro-deposit method), to update all future instalments to be charged to this new payment method, simply select it and choose "Set as default."
* At the moment it's not possible to add a second bank account. If you do, your payment methods get blocked and you won't be able to make another order. Please contact our support when this happens.
Adding a prepaid card
To add a prepaid card, start by navigating to the "Payment Methods" page within your Sezzle dashboard. You will then select "Add a new debit/credit card" to be walked through the process. Once added, it will automatically show up in the "Prepaid card" section of that page.
Since prepaid cards can't be used to place orders or for scheduling installments, you won't have the option to set it as a default. However, you can use it to pay off existing installments. To learn about how to pay off installments, click here.
